Terms & Conditions

At the time of rental, the client must produce:

• A valid driver's licence and national ID or passport.
• A company order, where applicable.
• Payment for the rental.
• The applicable proof of residence.
• Home and business addresses and telephone numbers.

Additional documentation requirements apply to local and international renters, as outlined below.

International clients must provide:

• A valid passport.
• A visa or permit, where applicable.
• An international driver's licence.
• Next-of-kin details and the requested current proof of residence, such as a ZETDC or water bill.

The Legacy team will confirm the supporting documents required before the rental is finalised.

Local clients must provide proof of residence, such as a ZETDC or water bill in the renter's name, dated within the last three months.

If the utility bill is not in the renter's name, a letter from the employer and a bank statement may be requested.

Alternatively, a relative or friend with sufficient supporting documentation may assist.

Rental rates are calculated in 24-hour cycles. The vehicle must be returned on the agreed date and time.

For example, a vehicle collected at 10:00 on Saturday must be returned by 10:00 on Sunday or earlier.

A grace period of up to two hours may be granted before an additional rental day is charged.

Where a client opts for a driver, the chauffeur-driven rental day is calculated as 12 hours.

All charges are payable in full upon invoicing.

Any overdue amount will attract interest at 3.5% per month, compounded monthly, from the due date until payment is made in full.

The vehicle may only be driven by the renter or an additional driver authorised under the rental agreement.

The minimum driver age is 23 years. Drivers under 23 who have held a valid, unendorsed driver's licence for at least three years may qualify for an exception.

A young-driver surcharge applies. The maximum permitted rental age is 65 years.

Any additional person wishing to drive must submit a copy of their valid driver's licence when collecting the vehicle and obtain the required authorisation.

A current driver's licence held for at least 24 months must be produced before hire.

The exception for drivers under 23 requires a valid, unendorsed licence held for at least three years.

Certain endorsements are subject to individual approval. Failure to produce a valid licence means the vehicle cannot be hired.

Insurance does not cover damage or loss caused by reckless, malicious, criminal or negligent conduct by the renter or passengers.

Personal belongings are not covered by any insurance.

Insurance cover may be invalidated by:

• Driving without due care and attention.
• Negligent or reckless driving.
• Driving under the influence of alcohol or illegal substances.
• Unauthorised drivers.
• Unauthorised cross-border travel.
• Driving on unsuitable roads without appropriate care.
• Failure to follow traffic and road regulations.
• Failure to obtain approval for a rental extension.
• Failure to report an accident immediately or submit a police report within 24 hours.

The Legacy Car Rental may terminate the rental agreement immediately if the renter is found to be:

• Over speeding.
• Allowing unauthorised drivers.
• Driving negligently.
• Driving while consuming alcohol.
• Failing to follow road traffic rules and regulations.

Rental extensions must be authorised by The Legacy Car Rental before the original return date and time.

A new rental agreement must be signed, and payment for the additional rental days must be made.

Driving beyond the agreed rental period without approval is unauthorised and may leave the renter without insurance cover.

Failure to obtain authorisation may result in penalties and the vehicle being reported as stolen.

Vehicles may be taken into selected neighbouring countries with prior approval.

• Approval must be obtained at the time of reservation.
• The renter's original passport and licence must be submitted at least 48 hours before the rental begins.
• Clearance is processed Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays.
• A US$50 cross-border administration fee applies.
• Any additional border charges are payable by the renter.

In the event of an accident or theft, the renter must:

• Report the incident to The Legacy Car Rental immediately.
• Report the incident to the nearest police station.
• Obtain a police report number and the attending officer's name.
• Submit the required police report within 24 hours.

No modification or mechanical work may be carried out without prior written approval from The Legacy Car Rental.

If this condition is breached, the renter will be responsible for all justified costs required to restore the vehicle to its original condition.

In the event of a breakdown, the renter must contact The Legacy Car Rental and take reasonable steps to secure the vehicle.

The Legacy has a 24-hour fleet hotline and a roadside assistance partner to assist customers.

If the breakdown is caused by gross negligence, recklessness, criminal or malicious conduct, the renter will be responsible for all related costs, including towing.

Extra care must be taken on unsuitable or unsurfaced roads, including roads to and from National Parks, State Lands and Communal Areas.

Any damage and related costs caused by use of such roads will be the renter's responsibility.

Tyre damage caused by negligence or reckless conduct will be charged to the renter.

Fuel is not included in the rental price.

The vehicle must generally be returned with the same fuel level recorded at collection.

If the fuel level is lower, the renter will be charged for the difference.

A full tank may be requested at pickup, subject to approval. The fuel cost will be added to the rental package and must be paid before the rental begins.

The renter is responsible for the security of the vehicle throughout the rental period.

• The vehicle must be kept locked and secure at all times.
• Doors must remain locked while driving.
• The vehicle must be parked in a safe, designated area.

Vehicle delivery and collection services are available in Harare, Bulawayo, at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport and at JMN Airport.

Delivery or collection at other specified locations may also be arranged, subject to the applicable terms and conditions.

Pickup and drop-off within Harare are free. Other locations may attract an additional delivery charge.

A refundable security deposit may be required depending on the selected vehicle and rental arrangement.

The deposit will be refunded within seven working days, subject to the rental agreement and any applicable deductions.

Vehicles must be returned in the same condition in which they were received.

If a vehicle is excessively dirty, a valet charge will apply and will be deducted from the renter's deposit.

Customers may rent a vehicle without a prior reservation, provided that a suitable vehicle is available.

Advance reservations are recommended, particularly during busy periods such as weekends and holidays.

When requesting a vehicle, customers should provide:

• Full name as shown on identity documents.
• Vehicle required.
• Pickup or delivery location.
• Rental start date and time.
• Expected destination.
• Return location, date and time.
